The holding company holds the shares and exercises decision-making responsibility in respect of the two operating subsidiaries - Barrie Hydro Distribution Inc. and Barrie Hydro Energy Services Inc.  The sole shareholder
of Barrie Hydro Holdings Inc. is the City of Barrie.

 

The distribution business covers the functions associated with operation of the "poles and wires" - the bulk of the physical assets of the company and the provision of standard supply service to customers.  The distribution business is relatively stable, regulated and focused primarily on technical performance (reliability, safety, quality of supply) and on operational productivity. It is being operated as a "for profit business" and is regulated by the Ontario Energy Board
("OEB").

 

The energy services business is responsible for billing and collection services for the water customers of the City of Barrie and the Town of Bradford-West Gwillimbury.  It is also responsible for hot water tank services.
