Schedule of Rates - May 1, 2008

This schedule of rates has been approved by the OEB (Ontario Energy Board) and is effective for consumption on or after May 1, 2008.  The "Electricity Commodity Price Changes" section below is effective for consumption on or after May 1, 2008.

Electricity Commodity Price Changes

As of May 1, 2008 the commodity price for residential, low volume (general service customers using less than 250,000 kWh per year) and designated customers (municipal, university, school and hospital sectors) will not change as per the direction of the Ontario Energy Board.

As of May 1st the price of electricity for eligible consumers will remain at 5.0¢ per kilowatt hour (kWh) for consumption per month up to the first threshold and 5.9¢ for any consumption per month over this threshold. This will be reflected on the "Electricity" line on eligible consumers' bills.

That price threshold - the amount of electricity that is charged at the lower price - will change 2 times a year for residential consumers. The price threshold will be 1,000 kWh per month during a winter season (November 1st to April 30th) and 600 kWh during a summer season (May 1st to October 31st). For non-residential consumers who are eligible for the new price plan, the price threshold will remain at 750 kWh for the entire year. For all other consumers, no commodity price changes have been implemented.

Other Rate Changes

A change in Barrie Hydro's distribution volumetric and monthly service charge, retail transmission rate, regulatory asset recovery and line losses for all classes of customers have also been approved by the OEB effective May 1, 2008. These approved changes are due to a rate filing submitted by Barrie Hydro in October of 2007. This rate filing was based on guidelines developed by the OEB. There will be no changes to our current OEB approved Specific Service Charges. Included in the monthly service charge of all metered customers is an amount to offset the cost of the implementation of Smart Meters in Barrie Hydro's service area. As clarification for all of our GS>50kW interval metered customers, all demand (kW) related charges will be billed at the greater of 100% kW or 90% of KVA.
